Valparai is a hill station located above 3500 feet height from the sea level on the Anamalai mountain range of the Western Ghats Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. Valparai  is a part of the Anamalai hills in the Western Ghats.Valparai is  Known fondly as the Seventh Heaven,

Valparai Township was started in 1903 by the Annamalai Planters Association. Valparai is also called Naduvar. Valparai At a distance of 64 km from Pollachi and 102 kms distance from Coimbatore.

Travelling between Pollachi to Valparai is itself an exotic experience.The route to Valparai  consists of 40 hairpin bends being encountered on the way after Azhiyar. Valparai Hill station is pollution free heavenly land surrounded with full of tea estates .

This place has number of tea and coffee estates surrounded by thick forest. The climate of Valparai is most suitable for tea, coffee, cardamom and cincona trees major portions of the land are owned by private tea companies, large forest areas continue to be out of bounds.

History Of Valparai :



The first of the planters to develop this area was Ramaswamy Mudaliar who started a coffee estate in the  year 1846 . There were others who could not make it profitable big and some of the plantations were sold.

By 1875, the British came to Valparai.The then Prince of Wales was scheduled to visit the place and a road and guest houses were constructed. A camp was arranged and there were a group of British people who had come to make arrangements.

This camp is now called Angalakurichy. The Prince could not make his visit.the visit was eventually cancelled. In 1890,HoweverTwo Britishers, W. Wintil and Nordan purchased some land from the Madras Government on behalf of the British and the area was developed by an expert,

Carwer Marsh,an experienced planter who started a tea and coffee plantation. These Britishers had close contacts with the local inhabitants. A statue of Carwer Marsh can be found in Kavarkal Estate. He was also known as ‘The father of Anaimalais’.

1. Trekking

Best Time To Visit Valparai : Valparai has pleasant weather throughout the year except for the monsoon season. However, the best time to visit Valparai is between September to March.

During the monsoon season, it is dangerous to travel through this route because landslides occur often. During summer forest fires can occur and the temperatures are high. Winter is a beautiful season but can be very cold.

The best season is autumn which lasts between September and November.

By Road : All the major cities in Tamil Nadu and Kerala are well connected with Coimbatore, from where you can reach Valparai easily. Valparai is connected by bus with Pollachi, Coimbatore, Chalakudy and Palani.

By Train : Pollachi Railway station is the nearest Railway station to Valparai Hill Station which is at distance of 64KM. The major railway station is Coimbatore Railway Junction which is located at a distance of 102 KM from Valparai.

By Air : Nearest Airport for Valparai Hill station is Coimbatore Airport which is of 102 KM distance.
