Adiyogi Shiva Statue Coimbatore

Adiyogi Shiva statue is located at the Isha Yoga complex which houses the Dhyanalinga in Coimbatore , Tamil Nadu at the foothills of Velliangiri Mountains, a range in the Western Ghats.

Adiyogi statue was designed over two years and manufactured within eight months. The bust is cast in steel carved out of 500 tonnes of steel.  The height of the statue, 112 ft (34 m), symbolizes the 112 possibilities to attain to moksha (liberation) that are mentioned in yogic culture.

Sadhguru also said that the height represents the 112 chakras in the human system. Adiyogi Shiva statue is 45-metre long (147 ft) and 25-metre wide (82 ft)  which has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "Largest Bust Sculpture” in the world.

The purpose behind this standing statue is to promote the culture of yoga and meditation. Since Lord Shiva is the Adiyogi or the first teacher of yoga, He is the symbol of promoting this beautiful ancient art.

Adiyogi Shiva Statue figure is shiny black in colour and exhibits moksha theme in yogic culture. However, anyone and everyone is invited to the centre to practice the art and better themselves. The base of the statue also leads up to the shrine and meditation centre.

Adiyogi Shiva Statue is located near the Yogeshwar Linga that was consecrated by the Sadhguru as a manifestation of five major chakras in the human system. Together, both the linga and the statue have become a living entity to inspire the people towards inner well-being through Yoga.

The linga has no heart chakra (Anahata) and is said to be a symbol for the “heartless yogi” meaning someone who is beyond the phase of feeling any emotions rather than being heartless.

But the linga has five chakras- root chakra (Muladhara), sacral chakra (Svadhishthana), solar plexus chakra (Manipura), throat chakra (Vishuddhi) and third eye chakra (Ajna); each of which has six dimensions.

The Adiyogi statue was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Isha Yoga Centre on the outskirts of Coimbatore on 24 February 2017 on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri – a Hindu festival celebrated annually as a marriage of Lord Shiva with Maa Parvati.
