Sri Subramania Swami Temple Pollachi
Sri Subramania Swamy Temple is located At a distance of 5
km from Pollachi bus stand , Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu state, India.
Subramania Swamy Temple built around 12th-13th centuries during the reign of Kongu Sundara Pandian and Kongu
Tribhuvana Chakravarthi Vikrama Chola according to epigraphic findings.
Konga Cholas built this temple in honor of 'Lord Shiva'
and named it as 'Thiru Agatheeswaram Udayar' temple, 700 years ago. In southern
wall of the temple showing the temple
belonging the sixth year of the rule of King Perum Padappu Sorupam of
Kochi royal family. The prominence of Subramanya Swamy might have come later.
This temple has a high architectural value. The temple faces east with one
Prakara and accommodates the shrine of Shiva which is opposite to Raja gopura.
The Moolavar is Shri Subramanyar with Valli and Devesena.
Shri Subramanyar appears in sitting position with four hands- the two upper
ones holding Shakthi and Vajram and the two lower ones giving solace to the
devotee with the Abhaya and Varada mudras. The Lord’s idol and the
outer frame thiruvatchi and the peacock are made of a single stone
!
The peacock’s head is on the left side of the Lord sculpture . Valli and Devasena appear with flower in one hand with the other hand in the Katya Valambitha pose where the fingers of one hand rest on the left thigh.
Subramania swami temple is very special for great artwork and sculptural
skill the wedding hall of the shrine of lord sundareswarar and mother meenakshi
constructed on 24 pillars mandapam is
speaking volumes of the sculptural skill . The pillars contain lot of carvings
of various gods and goddesses.
One of the important pillar deities is Shri Rama. This is one of the unique temples where along with the festivals associated with Shiva and Subramanya. You can pray here to Lord Subramanya and observe ragu kala puja.
