Masani Amman Temple
Masani Amman Temple is situated in Anaimalai Hills, which is
located about 15 km from Pollachi, Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu state, India.
Masani Amman is
primarily worshipped as a clan deity a hundred years back. she is regarded as
an Mahadevi, Masani Amman is seen in a
unique lying position that covers 17 feet , her head is in East side and her
feet faces the West. It is a very special form of Amman, no other Amman in
India is found in sleeping position. At the end of the deity’s feet, a statue
of Asuran is found, near to it about two feet high effigy of Masani stands
magnificently.
In her four hands
she holds a drum, a skull, a snake, a trident and include neethi kal (stone of
justice) It is a popular belief that
Masani Amman cures any illness . They also write their problems on a piece of paper that
is worshipped at Amman’s feet. This makes her ‘Goddess of Justice’ and also is
very popular for several years.
Masani Amman Temple History : During ancient times In the Sangam
Era Anaimalai was known as Nannanur and it was ruled by Nannan In Anaimalai
There was a dense grove of mango trees belonging to him He Appointing check
post officials to protect the fruits of his mango grove by instituting severe
punishments for any who ate of them.
An unfortunate One day, a woman
unfamiliar with these measures she picked it up and ate one of Nanan's mangoes
The guards caught the innocent woman and produced before Nannan The king came
to know this and awarded her a death sentence. The people of the village
objected to the act but the king executed the sentence.
Later, the aggravated people fought
against Nanan and killed him in a battle. After the victory, they built a
shrine in the memory of the lady and named her Masani Devi,continued with their
worship. This temple is a court for all justice seekers, people who lost their
belongings, properties and cheated by their partners or friends, visit this
temple to make their enemies suffer for their illicit activities.
In the Western side of the temple
there is a stone similar to Lingam, here people in need of justice grind red
chilies and apply it on the stone, whishing that all their problems should be
solved and their enemies should gain their proper punishment.
According to a legend, when Lord
Rama was on his way to rescue his wife, Goddess Sita, he learned about Masani
Amman and that the deity represents Parasakti. He made an idol of the Goddess
in a reclining posture with the sand available in the crematorium and offered
her prayers before proceeding to rescue Sita.

Temple Festivals : Arulmigu Masani Amman Temple Mayana
Puja festival , this festival falls in the month of February-march on the night
of Maha shiva rathiri.
The annual Kundam
Festival celebrated here is a major draw attended by thousands of devotees amid
much pomp and splendor. On Tuesdays, Fridays, and new moon days, special poojas
are performed at this temple.
Other festivals
are Adi peruku, chithirai kani and New Year,festival with special Alankaras, abisheks and pujas to
Mother Masani Amman.
