Athirappilly Falls is situated in Athirappilly Panchayat, Chalakudy Taluk, Thrissur District of Kerala. At a distance of 32 km from Chalakudy, 59 km from Thrissur In Kerala, India.

Athirappilly Waterfall is Formed over the Chalakudy River, is a scenic waterfall situated at the entrance of Sholayar hill range in the Thrissur district Kerala .

Athirappilly waterfalls originates from the upper Western Ghats, at the entrance of the Sholayar ranges. Due to its popularity, the falls has also been nicknamed as the Niagara of India.

Athirappilly waterfall is one of  the best and biggest waterfalls in Thrissur District of Kerala in India . Athirappilly waterfall standing at feet of 1000 above sea level at a height of 25 m (82 feet) with 4 drops and 100 M (330 feet) wide drops down from a height of 80 feet through several parallel streams offering a great scenic beauty.


The Athirappilly waterfalls flow through the verdant greenery of the Vazhachal forest toward the Arabian Sea, creating a spectacular vista of scintillating water, emerald jungles, and azure sky.

One can reach the top of the waterfall with about 15 minutes walk from the falls entrance. It offers spectacular views of the Sholayar hills and a unique view of the waterfalls from this spot.

Down from the waterfall, the stream continues as Chalakudy River which ultimately drains into the Arabian Sea. This river is a biodiversity hotspot with 85 species of freshwater fish living in it.

The Athirappilly Forest is also the natural habitat of different species like the great hornbill, Malabar pied hornbill, Malabar grey hornbill, Indian grey hornbill, Asiatic elephant, tiger, leopard, bison, sambar, and lion-tailed macaque.


Athirappilly falls also attracts a lot of filmmakers and the place has been the location for various South Indian as well as North Indian movies.Swimming is possible in the stream at bottom of the falls .
