Aliyar Dam is location in Valparai surrounded by Annamali Hills At a distance of 24 km from Pollachi and 43 km from Valparai, Aliyar Dam is an earthen dam located at Aliyar village in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. 

 It is one of the popular dams in the Coimbatore district and among the prime places to visit in Valparai.Aliyar Dam Built across Aliyar River between 1959 and 1969. 

The mian purpose of the dam is to support irrigation for Pollachi and near by places for Agriculture purpose. Azhiyar Dam was inaugurated on 2nd October 1962 by then Prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru .

 

Since 2002, the dam has been used to generate hydro-electric power. Height of the Aliyar Dam is 81 m total capacity is 3864.00 m.cft. A scenic view is guaranteed when you climb up the dam. 

The park and garden near the dam is well-maintained park built at bottom of the Dam along with an aquarium, a mini Themed - Park and play area maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation.   

One can also go for boating in the waters of the dam. During the monsoon, the water flow is quite majestic and once you climb up the dam, the view is unbelievable.At night, the dam lights up wonderfully.
