Anaimalai is a panchayat town located at a distance of 56 km from Pollachi in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu and along the border of Kerala.Anaimalai peak is the tallest peak in South India. Situated at a height of 265 meters altitude above the sea level at Anamudi Peak.
 

The name of the Anaimalai Hill is derived from the Tamil term 'Anai' which signifies elephant and 'malai' which signifies hill. When put together the term 'Anaimalai' signifies 'Elephant Hill'. 

Anaimalai hills is home to the Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest area which is approximately 600 sq miles is lush green with streams and wildlife in abundance.

The place is blessed with all the rarest species of birds and animals. Animals like elephants, tigers, deer’s and crocodiles are visible in Anaimalai. All rare collection of the birds, also pull towards you more than once, to this wonderful place. It is also an exact place for a tourist who wishes to trek.

Anamalai Hills  is dotted with tea and coffee plantations and the spread of teak forests.Anamalai Reserve Forest has several hills that lie at altitudes of about 1,120 ft to 8,240 ft above msl. There are several peaks like the Akka Malai and Thangachi Malai that are undulating grassy slopes, bounded by dense Shola forests.

Anamalai Hills a souce of several rivers and many large dams, Anaimalai boasts Sholyar dam, one of the biggest in Asia and Parambikulam dam one of the largest water carrying capacity in India.

The "Aliar" and "Uppar" rivers run through it and is also close to Parambikulam dam, Aliar dam and Valparai. Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary encloses the area. 

Sri Maasaaniamman temple is a famous place of worship. Annamalai Hills are well known for elephants. Anaimalai Hills, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.
