Yercaud is a hill station in Salem, district of Tamil Nadu, South India.At a height of 4,970 feet on the Shevaroy Hills of the Eastern Ghats. Also called the “Jewel of the South”,Yercaud is Popular called as the “Poor man’s Ooty”.
Servarayan Temple or Shevaroyan Temple Yercaud is Located 7 km from Yercaud town Shevaroy temple is situated on highest point of the flat-topped Shevaroy hills At a height of 5326 ft Servaroyan Temple is one of the highest temples in the region which is also a cave temple.
The Shevaroyan temple is dedicated to Lord Shevaroyan and Goddess Kaveri.The Shevaroyan temple is worshiped by tribal people of the region.Lord Seraroyan is considered to be the God of the Shevaroyan hills while Goddess Kaveri is considered to be the Goddess of River Cauvery.
According to the tribal beliefs, the guardian deity of 67 villages nearby. The temple has narrow and dark caves and is believed to be as old as 2000 years.
Shevaroy cave temple Yercaud : Shevaroyan cave temple is believed to be 2000 years old as per the locals The cave extends beyond the temple it extends all the way to the Kaveri River in Karnataka, a distance of 480 km.
It is also said that Tipu Sultan hides in that cave during war. Besides, there is a wishing well near the temple and the tribals believe that throwing the stones picked up from the temple, to the well can assure success in life.
The shevaroy temple holds an annual festival during the
month of May.The native tribes come in hundreds and celebrate their annual
festival in this temple .From the Servaroyan temple,The view from the
hills is scenic beauty of the Yercaud town and Nagaur village this is also one of the
important viewpoints the city.
