Yercaud is a hill station in Salem, district of Tamil Nadu, South India.At a height of 4,970 feet on the Shevaroy Hills of the Eastern Ghats. Also called the “Jewel of the South”,Yercaud is Popular called as the “Poor man’s Ooty”. 

Botanical Garden is located At a distance of 2.5 km from Yercaud Bus Stand and 3 km from Yercaud Lake, Botanical Garden is Maintained by southern circle of Botanical Survey of India, Botanical Garden is one of the top attractions in Yercaud. 

Botanical Garden is having various exotic species of flowers and plants.The Botanical Garden is divided in to different sections like bonsai garden, rock garden, sensory garden,foliage garden, topiary garden ,butterfly garden, herbal garden, It is a must visit for the nature lovers one can  the most beautiful, colorful and rare variety of plants.

 

Botanical Garden also houses of the Orchidarium and the green house. Spread across 18.4 hectares, the National Orchidarium is established in the year 1963. There are 3000 trees and 1800 shrubs grown in Orchidarium.

The Orchidarium is a fascinating garden that houses rare plants and flowers from different regions and local varieties that come from the Shevaroy Hill Ranges. 

The Garden has around 250 different species of Orchids including rare ones and few of them that are considered endangered by the Department of Horticulture. The Garden preserves around 30 of this rare species of Orchids which can be only found here.

It is the third largest Orchidarium in India and is one of two Orchidariums run by the Botanical Survey of India. It has a large collection of native orchids. 

Botanical Garden Yercaud is also famous for the beautiful Kurinji flower that blooms once in every twelve years and the Botanical Garden houses plenty of these flowers along with lady's slipper orchid and vernonia shevaroyensis are a few of the flowers displayed here. 

This Orchidarium is considered as the third largest Orchidarium in the country.In many ways, the Botanical Garden is like the Garden of Eden - a slice of paradise that remains untouched.
