Yelagiri formally Known as Vellore Yelagiri (also spelled Elagiri at times)
is a hill station in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, India, situated off the
Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road. Located at an altitude of 1,110.6 metres above
Mean Sea Level and spread across 30 km, the Yelagiri village .
Velavan Temple / Murugan Temple Yelagiri Located At a distance of 400 m
from Punganoor Lake and 1.3 km from Athanavur Bus Stop, Velavan temple for
Shanmuga is one of the most famous pilgrim centres of Yelagiri.
The temple sits on a small hillock, with a few dozen steps to be climbed up, and offers a great view of the surrounding landscape.The temple witnessed its construction in the year 1964.
Apart from the religious importance, the temple also is a beautiful tourist
view point. Highlight of the temple is the statue of Lord Murugan and Valli in
the form of Kuravan and Kurathi.
There is a shrine for Hanuman at the bottom and two shrines for Shanmuga
and Ganesha at the top. There is a huge statue of Gathotkatcha the son of
Bheema a character in the Mahabharatha.is placed at the entrance.
