Kurangani Name Meaning :
Kurangani literally means " The place which
wears monkeys as its jewels" in Tamil.
Kurangni Hills Tourism :
Kurangani hills located near Bodinayakanur in Theni district 55 km away from Kodaikanal hill town Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, South India.
Kurangani is situated in the Western Ghats at an attitude of 8,000 feet,Kurangani hills a mountain stream passes between Kurangani mountains in the east and Kolukkumalai in the west.
The
picnic starts with Theni Bodi road towards Kurangani, on the way the
Bodinayakunur shows its majestic beauty when you enter Bodi you came to see the
Royal Bodi palace from there Kurangani is just 13 km away.
The road is full of the fragrance of coffee. The kurangani coffee is considered as brown gold by the former. The kurangani road welcomes us with its stunningly beautiful waterfalls and kottagudi river view along with the road towards kurangani tribal village.
Kurangani has more than 6 small streams. All join
together into the Kottakudi River, where they then flow into Vaigai Dam.
The kurangani village is just a group of settlements of roughly ten to fifteen huts. The main occupation of the kurangani villagers is tribal farming, honey hunting,local guiding, etc.
Kurangani it has estates growing coconut, mangos, all spices and coffee,kurangani kolukkumalai tea plantation is still running in that style of British time.
The view of kurangani is in contrast to that of
Kodaikanal and Munnar, here its heavenly peaceful and the kurangani forest is
such as that of Evergreen type Film-makers too have been charmed by the nature
here.

shot there. The hills are characterized by frequently-changing weather,
low-hanging clouds, chilly atmosphere and strong winds, and are home to a wide
range of flora and fauna including Indian gaurs, barking deer, langurs,wild
cats, leopards and tigers.
Kurangani Hills Trekking with Camping :
Kurangni Trekking :Kurangani to Top Station (Munnar) - Kurangani Hills is suitable for trekking and nature walks,Trek starts from kurangani (Near Bodinaikkanur) to Top Station (16 Kms) via Central Station and Muthuvakkudi in the western ghats.
It takes four to five
hours to complete the trek from Kurangani village, which is at the foothill, to
reach Top station, whereas two-and-a-half hours are enough for the return trip.
Kurangani Hills is near the famous Munnar Hills
and Kolukkumalai Hills—the highest hills in the world at an altitude close to
8,000 feet—the place is still not known in the tourism circuit.
Those who visit Munnar in Kerala can also enter
the trekking route here by walking down the dense woods forests and plain
grasslands,By reaching Top Station, border of Theni district, from Munnar after
35 km travel, one can start trekking down the hills.
the trekkers Come across beautiful sceneries and
waterfalls in the pathway samabalaru falls, the source of Kottakudi River which
serves the drinking water needs of Bodinayakanur town,This way was in use by
people for the last 300 years. The way goes along the edge of the mountain. So,
the climate was airy.
As you drive closer, you will realize the step by step changes in the landscape that turns in to deeper forest Weather was great and we slowly walked to reach the view point.
The blue, gray and white clouds sailing on the mountains created a great view you can not forget in this life. Then a black shade appeared amidst the clouds and they started towards us.
Kurangani Hills Camping :
There are a lot of treks in India but mostly all these treks are in a National Park area where camping is not allowed.But Kurangani is one of those treks where you are allowed to camp, Camping point about 2 kms from top station that too inside tea gardens with a mesmerizing view of Sunrise and birdwatching.Enjoy a fun campfire session amidst nature under
the star-lit sky with your companions,An experienced guide will be assisting
you throughout the experience.
The villagers say that the tourists frequently
spot Indian gaurs, barking deer, langurs and wild cats.Also there is a warning
about the presence of leopards and tigers in this hill.However, several foreign
tourists do come here. Some nature lovers within the state also frequently
visit Kurangani Hills.
Top Station offers a panoramic view of the
majestic Western Ghats. The rare Neelakurinji (Strobilanthus), for which the
destination is popular, blooms once in twelve year.
Best time to visit Kurangani Hills : The best time to visit is between August and
December

By Road:
From Madurai or any other close by town or city,
taxi and bus services are available for Kurangani. The 16-km uphill drive from
Bodinayakanur to Kurangani.
By Train:
Bodinayakanur is the nearest station, 16 km from
Kurangani (not operational),15 km road connecting Kurangani and Bodinayakanur
Buses, jeeps and autos available from Bodinayakanur
By Air:
Nearest airport is at Madurai, 101 km from Kurangani.
