John Sullivan Memorial Kotagiri Nilgiris Ooty
Kotagiri is a small town in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated at an altitude of 1,839 metres (6,040 feet). Kotagiri is one of the three popular hill stations in the Nilgiris, the others being Ooty and Coonoor. Kotagiri is known for its coffee plantations and viewpoints.

It was his bunglow, also known as the Pathakal Bunglow, which he had built when was staying there.During his lifetime,
John Sullivan was born in the year 1788 AD, and died in the year 1855 AD. The John Sullivan Memorial was constructed on what was once his residence.This memorial today houses the belonging of Sullivan and his family along with the documents and articles depicting the role of British in Nilgiris and culture of tribes.
John Sullivan was one of the reasons that tea cultivation started being practiced on a massive scale in the Nilgiris district. He contributed to the diversified commercial crops in the region,
introducing potatoes and other European vegetables to the local community at that time to Badagas and Kotas, and played a very important role in developing the district as well as its headquarters Ootacamund which is an important Hill Station.
Under Sullivan's influence local roads, a market, and such civic buildings as a courthouse, a hospital, a post office, a bank and a jail arose. He also played an important role in developing the economy of several local tribes. John Sullivan is regarded with great respect by the locals even today, for his contribution to the district of the Nilgiris.
It now houses the Nilgiris Documentation Centre as well as the Nilgiris Museum.
