National Orchidarium and Botanical Garden Yercaud
Yercaud is a hill station in Salem, district of Tamil Nadu, South India.At a height of 4,970 feet on the Shevaroy Hills of the Eastern Ghats. Also called the “Jewel of the South”,Yercaud is Popular called as the “Poor man’s Ooty”.
National Orchidarium and Botanical Garden Yercaud It is situated at a distance of 2.5km from the Yercaud bus stand and about 3km from the Yercaud Lake. Spread over 18 hectares of land area, National Orchidarium also called the Orchidarium, It was established in the year 1963.
Boasting of around 3000 trees and 1800 shrubs,It is also known as Orchidarium, it has a huge and diverse collection of orchids.The third largest Orchidarium in India. The endangered orchid, Paphiopedilum Drury, also known as Venus Slipper, is being given a new lease of life here.
Other than several other species of exotic and rare plants, it is also home to the rare Kurinji flower that blooms once in every twelve years. The garden has a greenhouse and different varieties of orchids including unique exotic 30 orchid species,
you can also find some rare endangered species of orchids preserved here.There are a lot of orange trees around which paint an extraordinarily colourful view of the hills.
