Theppakadu is a village in Ooty Nilgiris district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Theppakadu Elephant camp is the oldest elephant camp in Asia. It has a reserve forest which is part of the Mudumalai National Park in northern Tamil Nadu This elephant camp was established 100 years before.

A little camp existed here since 1910 and was proclaimed an elephant camp, Theppakadu Elephant Camp was officially established in 1972 Theppakadu Elephant Camp territory gets its name from the two words, 'Theppam' and 'Kadu', which means lake and backwoods separately.

At first the camp elephants was used for timber traders ,After the Government took over the forests, the working elephants or kumkis now do a variety of tasks.The camp is used to train as well as house elephants. Today there are 23 elephants that reside in the camp.

Every day two of the elephants perform pooja to Lord Vinayaka inside the camp. The elephants are used to provide joy rides for a fee early in the morning and then again in the evening. Tourists are also welcome to come and see the elephants fed during their evening feeding time.

Elephant rides are offered promptly toward the beginning of the day just as the night at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp. Amid the nighttime, the elephants have their standard routine time and guests are free to watch this. The Theppakadu Elephant Camp is in this manner, chiefly utilized for eco-travel industry, watching, settling man-elephant clashes and advancing comprehension about the creature.

A documentary of the park in English language is screened. The park authorities organise the Elephant Show on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The elephant race and elephant soccer performed by elephants are quite popular.

There is an Elephant Show on Saturdays and Sundays (Rs 20) at 6 pm.
