History of Droog Fort  :

The Droog Fort was built in the 18th century by Tipu Sultan. Owing to the altitude at which it is positioned which facilitates pinpoint view of the area, it was used by him as a strategic outpost to guard the Sultanate from surprise military attacks and invasions.

However, today it stands in ruins with only one wall remaining This is mainly because of insufficient supplies, poor maintenance and repeated attacks back then.

Since then the situation has only got worse  Despite its dilapidated condition, history lovers are still drawn to it and don’t mind the physical exertion caused in reaching the fort.

The Droog Fort is at the top of the mountain of Bakasura Malai. This area is picturesque with high hills, greenery and low visibility. One must be careful as a wrong step can prove fatal.

According to Hindu Mythology, Bakasura was a demon who lived here. He was eventually killed by the Pandav, Bheem.
