This garden has been beautifully laid out in terraces with rose tunnels, pergolas and bowers with rose creepers.
which belongs to an elite club of 35 rose gardens around the world which has won the Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia from the World Federation of Rose Societies.
To commemorate the centenary Flower Show, the Rose Park was established at Vijayanagaram in Udhagamandalam covering an area of 4 hectares in five terraces.
This garden has the largest collections of roses in the country like Hybrid Tea Roses, miniature rose, Floribunda, Ramblers, roses of unusual colours like black and green are some of the more than 3,000 varieties of roses that will captivate your senses.

Nadu Horticulture Department. It has also received the award of Excellence for

Visitors can find a variety of roses at the Ooty Rose Garden. The collection is vast and includes locals, non-local and hybrid varieties of roses.
These have been sourced from all over the world and include Ramblers, Hybrid Tea Roses, Polyanthus, Floribunda, Green Roses, Black Roses, and Miniature Roses.

1. Ooty Rose Garden expands over an area of four hectares on the slopes of Elk Hills. The entire park has several terraces adorned with rose shrubs and other flowering plants.
These terraces curve along the hill slopes and give a mesmerizing view to the garden. The climatic conditions in Ooty are apt for a considerably longer season of bloom.
2. The layout of the garden consists of bowers with creepers of rose, Pergolas and Rose Tunnels.
There is an observation platform, also called the Nila Maadam, from where visitors can get a beautiful view of the entire garden.
3. When the Garden was initially established, there were about 17,000 plants with over 1900 varieties of colourful and fragrant roses.
Today, there is an assortment of
about 20,000 roses and 2,800 plants; making it one of India’s largest
collection of roses.
4. The Rose Garden has been recognised by the World Federation of Rose Societies who appreciated this garden with the Garden Of Excellence Award for the Best Rose Garden in South Asia in 2006.
The Ooty Rose Garden is one of the 35 gardens that have received this honour.
The flower show is the time the country has the highest production of colourful and fragrant roses.

Best Time To Visit Ooty Rose Garden :
The best time to visit the beautiful garden is between March and June as the flowers are in full bloom during this time.
The Ooty Flower Show is usually held in May.
Those who want to avoid the crowds in summers can visit from November and February,
however, they may find only a few roses as it may not be the blooming season for those varieties.
