Doddabetta Peak  Ooty :

Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills, at 2637 metres (8650 feet). There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 9 km from Ooty,on the Ooty-Kotagiri Road in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, South India.

South India has some beautiful mountain peaks of India, and Doddabetta Peak is certainly one of them At 2,637 mts above MSL, Doddabetta is the highest Peak in the Tamil Nadu 

The term Doddabetta means Big Mountain in Badaga language It is a combination of two words Dodda meaning big and Betta which means mountain. which is so in reality

It is at the junction of Western and Eastern Ghats and offer beautiful vistas of Nilgiri Hills range. It is surrounded by dense Sholas.  

Try to go in early morning so you can visit other places in the afternoon, Awesome view You can enjoy some carrots, corn cob, some mangoes and some peanuts and chill fresh air.

Activities at Doddabetta Peak :

Trek to Doddabetta Peak:  Experience the thrill of hiking up the Doddabetta Mountain as you enjoy the expedition amidst coarse grass and fluffy clouds. 

The total trek of 10 km is quite an easy trek that ends with a spectacular flattened surface at the top.  

There are many trekking trails which are easy to do and require no special trekking equipment As you start your ascent up the mountain, 

you pass through dense Shola forests and the winding road up the mountain will give you breathtaking views of the mountain tops covered in wisps of hovering clouds, misty valleys, and grassy plains.  

The rhododendron bushes add a romantic charm to the entire landscape  So, you should carry binoculars with you & digital cameras/ DSLRs with which you can take fabulous scenic photographs.

Also, take enough water with you during hot summer months, so that you stay hydrated,Once you’ve reached the top of the peak, the magnificent sights that you see will be a fitting reward for your trek.

You can also reach Doddabetta Peak by car or jeep but hiking the mountains will give you an unforgettable experience.

Telescope House at Doddabetta Peak:

 

It was opened in 18 June, 1983 and since then, the views of misty mountains, dense valleys and other peaks of this region have enthralled tourists who throng to this Telescope House to have a good view of the surroundings.  

On top of Doddabetta Peak, there is a Telescope House, with two telescopes You can view sweeping panoramic views of the entire region through these two telescopes, and get close-up views of the surrounding areas. 

where you can spot Bandipur National Park and grassy plains of Coimbatore and Mysore during summers when the sky is clear.

Doddabetta Tea Factory :

 The Tea Factory at the base of Doddabetta Peak is a factory and museum, where you can see how tea is made from tea leaves,Here you will find various machines processing tea leaves & eventually making the tea powder that we use today by you & me. 

There are pictures & charts describing the discovery of tea, and various manufacturing processes involved in tea making. 

A free cup of hot tea is offered to visitors after the visit to the tea factory, and you can even buy tea packets from the factor. In short, its worth visiting. 

Attend the famous annual “Tea and Tourism Festival” at Doddabetta Tea Factory. 

Flora at Doddabetta peak :

Doddabetta Peak is surrounded by a reserved forested area, which has rich flora and fauna.

There are rhododendron bushes on the slopes of the mountain, adding charm with their bright pink colors.

Dense Shola forests surround the mountain, and there are patches of open grassy meadows. Many herbs and plants having medicinal value can be found here.

Best Time To Vist Doddabetta peak :  

 The pleasant weather of Ooty makes it favorable to visit all through the year, however, the best time to visit Doddabetta peak is from October to January. Early morning is the best time to visit this incredible viewpoint to avoid the crow.  

Trek Duration: The 2-mile ascent to Doddabetta Mountain will take around 1-2 hours.
