TNAU Botanical Garden Coimbatore
Tamil Nadu Agriculture University is situated at a
distance of 2 km from Gass Forest Museum, and 5 km from Coimbatore Junction,Tamil
nadu, India.
This huge 300 Acre Botanical Garden called the TNAU
Botanical Garden.The TNAU Botany Garden is a well-maintained garden by the
tamilnadu agricultural department.
The TNAU Botanical Garden is established in 1925,
The botanical garden have so many
varieties of plants and trees you can find there, and each species is labeled
with its common name as well as scientific name.
A large variety of roses, marigolds, carnations,
chrysanthemums, and lilies at the TNAU Botanical Garden. The garden is also
equipped with various incubators for growing non-seasonal plants.
It is rich
in plants with more than 2,000 plant species from all over the world. The
garden is an ideal learning environment for students, researchers and visitors
interested in botany and horticulture.
The garden also maintains a nursery where one can know
the techniques of plant growing like plant husbandry, organic pesticides, etc.
The lush green surroundings also serve as a spot for spending leisure time.
The TNAU Insect Museum where visitors will find a
collection of interesting pests, rocks, and insects. The garden is also the
venue for the flower show in January which attracts a huge number of tourists.
Architecture of TNAU Botanical
Gardens : TNAU Botanical Garden
Spread across 47 acres, the garden has over 800 species of flora, both
exotic and native, and serves as an education hub for botanists and the general
public.
This bay of flowers there are vast stretches of
lush green lawn with shrubs of roses, yellow and orange Tecoma flowers.The park
has many swings and colorful slides Other attractions include a Bambusetum with
15 species of bamboo, a rock garden with cacti species and a palmatum with
diverse palm species.
This botanical garden has children’s park, Herbal
plants, Flower garden, tree collections. Photographs are restricted entrance &
inside the flower garden,Many organic products are sold at the entrance.

The garden's exotic collection of plant species,
thematic gardens such as the herbal garden, the ornamental garden, and the
Aromatic and medicinal plants garden accentuate its uniqueness.
It has steadily evolved by adopting innovative and
sustainable horticultural practices. The garden boasts well-paved walkways, and
benches at intervals are provided for visitors to relax and immerse themselves
in the marvel of nature.

Research :
TNAU Botanical Garden functions as an educational
and research-oriented ecosystem. Students, botanists, and plant enthusiasts
visit the garden to learn more about plant species, both indigenous and exotic.
It serves as a live laboratory for students of agriculture and botany from
different parts of India.
Floriculture and Landscape
Architecture : The Department of
Floriculture and Landscape Architecture dates back to 1972, with the
establishment of the Horticultural College and Research Institute at
Coimbatore.
This Department is situated inside the Botanic
Gardens of the University.
The Botanic Garden at Coimbatore was established in
1908 when the Agricultural College was formed. The total area of the garden
(inclusive of the area under floriculture and medicinal crops raised for
research purpose) is 47.5 acres.
Inside the Botanic Garden, the Field No.10
comprises of 10 acres which is exclusively allocated for flower crops research.
It has an extensive collection of germplasm in various flower crops, Jasmine
(65 collections), Chrysanthemum (61 collections), Nerium (30 collections),
Tuberose (22 collections), Hibiscus (16 collections), Anthurium (15
collections), Turf grass (8 collections), etc.
Department has a separate mother nursery area
wherein multiplication of commercial flower and ornamental plants is being
taken up. In the nursery premises, protected structures namely, mist chambers,
hardening chambers and shade net houses are present.
The Department is involved in teaching, research
and extension activities in respect of commercial flowers, cut flowers, value
addition, ornamentals and turf grasses.
The Department is offering courses on production,
breeding and post harvest technologies in traditional and cut flower crops,
ornamental gardening and landscaping.
