Pomological Station is a well known research institution of the country, The Pomological Station near the Sims Park in Coonoor was set up in the late 1940s ,The institution is engaged in research of Apples, Plums, Peaches, Persinments, Lemons, Apricots and Pomegranates.
The station is one of the
three experimental fruit gardens positioned in the Nilgiri ranges, managed by
the Horticultural Department., does its research on the different types of
fruits.
Birdwatcher :
It has become an ideal location to spot a wide array of birds, including the Nilgiri flycatcher, black and orange flycatcher and the Nilgiri wood pigeon. The Vernal hanging parrot was also commonly sighted while the blue capped rock thrush a favourite winter migrant. to the Nilgiris as well as resident and endemic bird species.
Apart from the birds, there
is an almost constant presence of Gaur inside the premises, while a small
family of sloth bear has also apparently moved in.It is located in the middle
of Burliar and Kallar on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat Road. Along with the
station, surplus fruits and fruit based jams are sold on the roadside.
