PYKARA WATER FALLS ;
The Pykara is the largest river in the District. It is considered very sacred by the Todas. The Pykara river rises at Mukurthi peak.
It passes through hilly tract, generally keeping to North and turns to West after reaching the Plateau’s edge.
Pykara is the name of a village and river located 19 km from Ooty in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu.
A boat house on the Pykara reservoir is an added attraction for tourists, Pykara boats of well protected fenced shoals.
Pykara waterfalls flows through Murkurti, Pykara and Glen Morgan dams, There is a forest rest house in Pykara and also the scenic beauty of this place is extraordinary
The dam and power house built across the river also ensures hydro electricity to the population. Declared a heritage site, the Pykara lake is one of those "must see" sights in Ooty.
As the river flows down the mountains it forms two majestic waterfalls, the first one fifty five meters in height and the second one even higher at sixty one meters.
Enjoy a boat ride in the lake or plan a stay at the boat-house. The place is a must visit for nature lovers, photographers and adventure seekers. The best time to visit Pykara Lake and waterfall is from the month of August to January
It is 21kms from udhagamandalam on Mysore Road Fenced Sholas, Toda settlement, undisturbed grassy meadows, good Wildlife habitat, The Pykara Dam, Waterfalls and Boat House are the big attraction to the visitors.
