Bhavanisagar Dam and Reservoir also called Lower Bhavani
Dam, is located on the Bhavani River in Erode district, Tamil Nadu, India. The
dam is situated some 16 km (9.9 mi) west to Sathyamangalam, is 35 km (22 mi)
from Gobichettipalayam and is 36 km (22 mi) north-east to Mettupalayam.
Bhavanisagar dam is constructed on Bhavani River, which is
merely under the union of Moyar River. The dam is considered to be among the
biggest earthen dams in the country.Bhavanisagar dam is the second largest dam
in Tamil Nadu.
The dam is used to divert water to the Lower Bhavani
Project Canal.The Dam was constructed during post independent period from 1948
to 1955. The construction cost of the dam was 21.00 Crores.
Bhavanisagar dam is a Multi-Purpose Dam. It is used to
store water for irrigation, generate electricity, supply drinking water,
control flood and control the silt formation in the downstream river.

Bhavanisagar dam length is 8km, Dam height is 40m or 130 ft, The full reservoir level is 37 metres or 120 ft. Total capacity of reservoir 32.8×109 cu ft,Installed capacity of Reservoir 32 MW or 43,000 hp.

Bhavanisagar Dam Hydro Electric
Power Plants : Bhavanisagar dam had two hydroelectric power
stations, one on the east bank canal and the other on the Bhavani River. East
power station has a capacity of 8 megawatts totaling to a capacity of 16,000
megawatts .
Bhavanisagar Dam park : At the side of the dam there is a well-continue park specially made to
engage the children. The park is cleanly kept under perfect maintenance and it
gives a great comfort to kids.

There is also a short boat trip facility and a simple dining area for visitors.
Each person needs to pay Rs.5 to enter the park.
This amazing dam site provides a peaceful retreat from

can catch fresh fish directly from the dam. Toilet facilities are also
available there inside.
