Nirar Dam is located at a distance of 9 km from Valparai Bus stand,in the Anaimalai Hill Range of polachi town in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu India. 

Nirar Dam was an artificial small dam built across Nirar River at a lower site, about 8 km, below the Upper Nirar weir.This dam is built for multi-purpose project such as irrigation, Hydro electricity production. 

It also plays an important role in terms of irrigation and supplies water to places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.This dam will serve to conduct the diverted waters of the Anamalai Basin to the Sholayar valley . 

Through the most thrilling and intriguing part is crossing the 8km long unlined lower Tunnel taking off from the dam site that connects the Nirar Dam with the Solaiyar Dam.You can also visit one of the tunnels here when the water is less. 

There is another adjacent dam called the Lower Nirar Dam located inside a forest area surrounded by tea plantations and calm waters.
