Carver Marsh Monument is Located around 3,500 feet above the sea level on the Anamalai mountain range, Valparai is a mesmerizing hill station in Coimbatore district of Tamilnadu, India.
Carver Marsh Monument is located in Kavarkal estate enroute valparai. Carver Marsh statue is located at the 32nd hairpin bend of the road towards Paralai estate.
Carver Marsh is known as ‘The Father of Anamalai’ and he was part of a group that
cultivated the first 50-acre patch of tea here in Valparia area and Anamalai
hills.
Until the end of 19th century Anamalai hills were not familiar with tea plantation. Experiments were going on to find the best suited plantation for the area.
Crops like cardamom, coffee, cinchona, rubber extra tried. Tea plantation found to be the best for the area. Carver Marsh was one of the major planters at that time. He did his best for the development of plantation workers.
A statue was built near to the Paralai Tea Estate in the memory of Carver Mash. It is the only statue of an English Planter in Tamil Nadu. which is covered in mist most of the year, but when the skies are clear one can witness a breathtaking view of the Sholayar Reservoir.
The view is good from here of the Pollachi region but more importantly it was good to learn about Mr. Carver Marsh who was a pioneer in this region and died in Ooty in his 70s .
